Hi, Mile, I think you are a good teacher!
But this is a little bit difficult for me.
You know my English is not good :p
I will send this website to my friend
Let all Hong Kong players know this

Yup, black playing 3 at 5 is a mistake, since white gets a very strong ponnuki on the outside, after black captures the 2 stones, white jumps out at F-14.

You can check that the result looks like white played 3-3 first, and black doubled haned. Except that black played a useless move at C-12, allowing white to jump out at F-14.

Here Black 9 looks obviously bad after white 8. So this result is generally nod good for black. It's probably playable in rare situations, when the left side is lots of solid groups and thus worth very little.

Thanks for mentioning the ladder, I just assumed to worked for white. The fight in Diagram 5 I think is only good for white if that ladder works. Usually it though does if black went san ren sei though! Though the variations after Diagram 5 still remains very complicated either way, so this should probably only be played if you love close combat :).

In diagram 2, what happens if black plays 3 at 5 instead? Is white happy to sacrifice the corner?

Mile

Good stuff! Thanks for this. There seems to be an issue with ladder breakers in the lower right, something that might be worth exploring in your next post.
